ABOUT
CHECKMATE COVID
Checkmate COVID was founded by Felix Kaye, Jack Jacobsen, and James Poetzscher, high schoolers in San Francisco interested in chess.
We spent a lot of time playing chess during the coronavirus pandemic and decided that we could try to use our passion for chess to support coronavirus relief. So we held a 32 person chess tournament for our friends in San Francisco and gave the winner $100 of our own money to put towards any COVID-19 relief charity. Seeing that the first tournament was a success, we decided to continue hosting future tournaments. We named our organization Checkmate COVID and began to seek out sponsors and donations to fund future tournaments, thereby continuing to help combat COVID-19. One year after Checkmate COVID began, we concluded our 13th tournament, having raising two thousand dollars for COVID-19 relief!
